Join Narelle for this professional learning on prevention and intervention of maths difficulties using the Bond Blocks Core Kit. Bond Blocks was developed by Western Australian classroom teacher Narelle Rice in partnership with Dr Paul Swan. In 2022 Bond Blocks was awarded Winner of the Educational Publishing Awards Australia, Student Resource Mathematics: Numeracy.

Outline:

Building the Foundation of Addition and Subtraction using the Bond Blocks Core Kit
The Bond Blocks Core Kit systematically covers Year 1 to 3 addition and subtraction content, including the application of basic facts to missing number and word problems.
The Core Kit has two uses in line with a Response To Intervention approach:
Whole Class Teaching (Tier One)

• Use in Years 1 to 3 as part of a whole school approach to Maths Lesson Warmups. Doing this will reduce the number of students requiring intervention.
  Intervention (Tier Two and Three)
• Use with small groups or individual students in Years 1-6 who count to add and subtract.
  The Core Kit contains planning, video modelled teaching, assessment and monitoring resources, including a placement test. These resources have been designed to support students with learning difficulties.
