In this session, Dr Paul Swan will demonstrate proven strategies to engage students in the four proficiency strands of mathematics:

• Understanding
• Fluency
• Problem Solving
• Reasoning

Hands-on materials and activities will be clearly linked to the curriculum.

For example: The use of ‘Pattern Blocks’ to develop a better understanding of ‘Fraction’ concepts.

Dr Swan will also demonstrate how the proficiency strands of ‘Understanding’ and Reasoning’ are featured in certain NAPLAN questions through the use of specific materials and resources.
